What made the Greek City-States of Athens and Sparta so different?
If you could travel back in time to Ancient Greece would you live in Athens or Sparta?
Task
Research the Ancient city-states of Athens and Sparta. Based on your research decide which of these you would live in if given the chance. Provide clear and convincing evidence based on historical facts to support your choice.
Create
Use Pages, Comic Life, or Sonic Pics to create a product that shares your decision. Be sure to meet the following requirements.
- Clearly state your preference for Sparta or Athens.
- Give 3-5 reasons why you would choose that city-state. Consider how you would have been treated, your privileges, expectations, and quality of life. All of your reasons must be based on historical facts.
- Give 2-3 reasons why you would NOT want to live in the other city-state. Again, all of your reasons must be based on historical facts.
- Use images to help make your case. You must give credit to any websites or books that you use images from. I prefer that you attempt to make your own or edit found images.
- Cite (list) all of your sources. Use both websites and books for your sources.
- Use three different sources.
- Be sure to proof read, revise, edit, and reflect on your work before turning it in.

How should I organize my time?
I suggest spending one-two class periods reading and gathering research. Then spend two class periods creating your project. If this seems like too little time you may need to take your notebook home and do some organizing and drafting at home. Or collect your thinking in a Google Drive document that you can access from home.
I used the websites you listed but I can't find any books.
Remember to use your nonfiction navigation skills to help you skim and scan books. Check the Table of Contents, Index, and Images in a book to help you quickly determine if it might make a good resource. You may also ask classmates and share books with each other.
What does it mean to cite a source? How do I do that?
In the real world if you get information from somewhere you have to give credit. When you cite a source you are telling people that is where you learned some of your facts from.
Book: List the title, author, pages you used, and publication city and date.
App: List the app title and author
Website: Give the title of the website, web address, and author if available. Google is NOT a website it's a search engine!
